Basic Information
Firefly is Adobe's image generation family, positioned explicitly around commercial safety: models are trained on Adobe Stock, openly licensed, and public-domain content, and enterprise customers receive IP indemnification for generated outputs. It lives inside Photoshop (Generative Fill), Illustrator, and Express, as well as a standalone web app with a credit-based subscription.
Raw quality trails the open frontier in some styles, and its aesthetic is deliberately 'brand-safe' — but for agencies and corporations, the combination of training-data provenance and legal indemnification is the feature that matters.
Best use cases
- Commercial artwork where provenance and indemnification are requirements
- In-app editing: generative fill/expand directly in Photoshop workflows
- Marketing teams producing brand-safe imagery at volume
- Organizations that cannot legally use ambiguously-licensed model outputs
Computational Requirements
None — cloud-only, subscription with monthly generative credits. Works on any device with a browser.
- The trade for commercial safety is no local option and a metered credit system.
