Qwen-Image 20B
Alibaba's open 20B image model — best-in-class text rendering (including Chinese) with strong editing, on a 16–24 GB GPU.

Basic Information
Qwen-Image is Alibaba's open-weights image generation and editing model: a ~20-billion-parameter diffusion transformer notable for two things — its Apache 2.0 license and its exceptional in-image text rendering, in English and in Chinese. If you have ever watched a diffusion model mangle a road sign, this is the model built to fix that.
It handles generation and instruction-based editing (change the background, swap an object, keep everything else) within a single model, and community quantizations bring it down to single-24-GB-card territory.
Best use cases
- Posters, diagrams, and graphics where in-image text must be legible
- Bilingual (Chinese/English) design and marketing content
- Instruction-based editing: targeted changes that leave the rest of the image intact
- Commercial pipelines that need Apache-2.0 licensing certainty
Computational Requirements
Local on a single workstation GPU: quantized community builds fit 16–24 GB cards; full precision wants 40+ GB. Editing pipelines lean a few GB heavier.
| Configuration | Memory |
|---|---|
| FP16 (reference) | ~37 GB |
| Quantized (community) | ~13–17 GB |
| Comfortable target | 24 GB card, or 16 GB with offloading |
Commercial license
Apache 2.0 — unrestricted commercial use of the model and the images it generates. Combined with its text-rendering strength, it is the lowest-friction choice for businesses building local image pipelines.
